9 years of Dior Lady Art Bag: 7 Creatives Reinvent it in Honour Of Its Anniversary

In its ninth year, the iconic Dior Lady Art bag has been reinvented and reimagined by some of the world ’s most prolific contemporary artists. Hailing from diverse backgrounds, disciplines and corners from around the world, these pieces will be part of the 2025 Pre Collection.

Jeffrey Gibson- Artist

Native American with Cherokee and Choctaw Lineage

A multidisciplinary artist, Jeffery Gibson combines sculpture, painting, engraving and textiles in his recognisable works. Most renowned for his beaded art, the all-round creative is influenced by popular fashion, music and culture. His colourful works are always bold with a nod to the psychedelic and often feature slogans or song lyrics. An ode to matters of the heart, one of Jeffery’s Dior Lady Art creations has the words Love, Love, Love emblazoned on one side of the bag, with the other covered in heart padlocks – a tribute to the thousands of padlocks on bridges across Paris.

Anna Weyant- Painter

Canadian

Name any major city in the world and Anna Weyant has exhibited in it. Voted in the Forbes 30 Under 30 in the Art and Style catergory in 2023, the painter was also commissioned for the 2024 Gallery Met Banners Project at the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, New York earlier this year. Her portraits and still life works are steeped in surrealism and have their melancholic moments too. For the Dior Lady Art project, Canadian-born Anna worked with wood grain, a pattern often used in her works, in addition to gilded roses and daisies which transform the bag into a stunning jewelled sculpture.

Vaughn Spann- Artist

American

Vaughn Spann was born in Florida in 1992 and has had his works shown all over the world including the Perez Art Museum, Miami and the Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo. The New Jersey-based artist received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rutgers University in 2014 and Master of Fine Arts from Yale University in 2018. Vaughn is most appreciated for his mix of the abstract and pictorial elements, while always exploring African-American history. Playing with masculine and feminine codes, the artist designed several Dior Lady Art bags, all with his reoccuring signatures which include the letter X and the use of different materials married together. In the spirit of the ’80s briefcase, Vaughn created a transparent, pink Dior Lady Art bag for lovers of all things retro.

Hayal Pozanti- Artist

Turkish

Hazel Pozanti created three bags for the Dior Lady Art bag project. All about the environment, her inspiration for the first two Lady Dior Art bags stemmed from trekking, which is one of her greatest passions. With sheepskin inserts, snap hooks and feet of the bags in a star shape (like the tips of walking poles), the recognisable Lady Dior bag charms are recreated in hieroglyphic script. The third model is a hand-painted clutch and features a nocturnal scene created in a cloud of rhinestones, while the interior of the bag is covered in mirrors.

Sara Flores- Artist

Peruvian, from the Shipibo-conibo People

Born and raised in the Amazon, Sara Flores’ work stems from Kené, which is the visual language of Shipibo-Conibo people, an indigenous group living along the Ucayali River in the Peruvian Amazon.

Sara wanted to put the unique skills of her community on a pedestal for the world to see, and created two bags with details of her painted works which use plant pigments on canvas. The bags are also embroidered, and have a serpent slinking its way around the handle. The mini size is studded with silver gems with the medium size featuring a smattering of black beads.

Faith Ringgold- Painter, Author and Artist

American

Born in Harlem in 1930, Faith Ringgold recently passed away at 94 this year. An acclaimed feminist, artist and educator, Faith had received over 80 awards and honours during her career as well as being awarded 23 honorary doctorates. For over seven decades, Faith challenged racial identity and gender equality through her work, which was made memorable through her quilting, craft and fine art techniques. The artist worked on six bags for the Dior Lady Art project including reimagining Faith’s political posters of the ’70s by incorporating them on the bags via a collage of metallic materials. One of the bags has a quote from the artist inside the handles reading: “Anyone can fly, all you gotta do is try.”

Duy Anh Nhan Duc- Artist

Vietnamese

Born in Saigon in 1983, Duy Anh Nhan Duc moved to Paris at the age of 10 and is still living and working in the French capital. Known for his intricate work with plants including dandelions, thistles and clover, his work touches on the creation of life and the fragility of it. His bag is decorated with flowers and seeds and is, impressively, 100 per cent vegan. Gilded twigs and branches also grace the bag, as does a golden vine which wraps around the handle enclosed with a dandelion which is the artist’s signature.
