Graciela Huam: Sustainable and Ludic Fashion

Graciela Huam is a sustainable fashion label the seamlessly blends Dutch and Peruvian inspirations. She presents her latest collection, Huayna Picchu.

From concept inception in the Netherlands to to the design and production in Peru, Graciela Huam unites quality and traditional Peruvian handmade techniques into knitwear, all in pursuit of a sustainable proposal.

Founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, and economic justice, Graciela Huam incorporates exclusive raw materials into her brand design: Peruvian baby alpaca, suri alpaca, organic cotton and pima cotton, while while implementing production regulations concerning environmental obligations and fair-trade practices.

Born in Peru and residing in the Netherlands, Graciela Huam was founded in 2018 ny Grace Huam. Always thinking about how to collaborate in the progress of Peru through art and education, she created a bold, conscious and rooted knitwear brand. Grace brings together distinctive elements as craftsmanship, quality, joy and creativity with the touch of Peruvian traditional techniques of handmade knitwear.

Machu Picchu in quechua means “old mountain”, while Huayna Pichu means “young mountain”, it’s a metaphor that makes a comparison between the young and old man. Huayna Picchu is located at 2667 meters above sea level. In the Cusco region, its circular base is surrounded by the Urubamba valley, on the north side of the citadel of Machu Picchu.

The Huayna Picchu collection recreates the coexistence between ancestral culture and a bold and youth spirit. This concept has been translated in several pieces using Peruvian weaving techniques, combining handmade knitting and manual machines to preserve the essence of the collection. The vibe on the other hand is very joyful with a vivid colour palette, color blocking and embroidery.

The collection, 100% made in Peru by artisans in Lima and Puno, explores the possibilities of baby alpaca, suri alpaca, organic cotton and mercerized pima cotton as main materials.
