Le 19M: An ode to Mexican folkclore
Le 19M presents “Carla Fernandez: L’Avenir fait main”, an immersion into the universe of the designer and her collaborative work with traditional Mexican artists. The exhibition showcases Fernandez collaborative work with Chanel’s Maisons d’Art, creating a genuine cultural mélange between French savoir-faire and Mexican millenary textile techniques.
Designer and founder of her eponymous brand, Carla Fernandez works on the avant-garde of Mexican ethical fashion. documenting and preserving the textile patrimony of the native textile communities of her country. Alongside her associate, Cristina Rangel, and 180 weavers, embroiders and wood sculpteurs hat master traditional and rich techniques, Carla Fernandez Casa de Moda a contemporary fashion style that resonates with textile creation, design and fine arts.
Previously presented in Denver and Mexico, the exhibition is here augmented by the collaboration pieces created specifically for the occasion. Maison Michel, Goosens, Massaro Paris and ERES, four resident houses of Le 19M, infused their expertise into various pieces that dialogued perfectly with Fernandez artisanal pieces.
Through a series of workshops, conferences and events, Le 19M explores the pedagogical dimension of the artist style and the artisans with which she has co-created her artwork. Invited by Fernandez, three artisans will land in Paris/Aubervilliers all the way from three different regions of Mexico to animate workshops on their traditional techniques.
The audience will be able to initiate in the art of mas painting with Felipe Horta, embroidery and Amate paper with Arisbeth González and gloss paint with Obdulia Almazán. Ludic and open to everyone, these workshops are conceived to approach the audience to handmade traditional techniques.
